Learn about your rights and get support this Carers Rights Day

Access information online and join our upcoming RenTalk session for colleagues and managers of colleagues with caring responsibilities.

Today is Carers Rights Day (Thursday 21 November) and the theme this year is 'Recognising Your Rights'.

As an 'Exemplary' carers positive employer—which means we've been recognised for our commitment to supporting unpaid working carers through innovative practices, awareness efforts, and fostering a carer-inclusive workplace culture—helping our colleagues with caring responsibilities to understand their rights and access support matters a lot to us.

Just last week, we won the category for 'Best Organisation for Carer Identification' at the Carers Positive 10 Year Anniversary Awards in Edinburgh.

The end of the year is a busy time which can mean additional challenges for unpaid working carers. To help support you, our next RenTalk session, which takes place on Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 11 December at 3.30pm, will guide you through our key supports for unpaid working carers including our Carers Leave policy, Carers Connected forum and Carers UK membership resources. The session will also highlight additional guidance and tools, and help you learn more about the type of support available at your local Carers Centre.

This RenTalk would be useful for you if:

  • you are already registered as a carer
  • you aren't sure if you qualify to be considered as a carer
  • you manage someone in your team with caring responsibilities.

Your hosts will be Fiona Sinclair and Iain Whyte from our People and OD team.

Look out for your meeting invitation arriving in your inbox soon.

In the meantime, you can get information about what it means to be an unpaid working carer, your rights, and the supports available to you on our 'Council staff with caring responsibilities' webpage.
