New Carer Support Payment

Check if You're Eligible.

If you care for someone with a disability or long-term health condition, you may now qualify for Scotland's new Carer Support Payment, which has replaced Carer's Allowance. This payment is available to those who provide 35 or more hours of care per week, helping with tasks like dressing, managing household tasks, attending appointments, and providing emotional support.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Aged 16 or older
  • Providing 35+ hours of care weekly to someone receiving certain disability benefits
  • Earning £151 per week or less after deductions
  • Living in an eligible area

The Carer Support Payment is paid at £81.90 per week or £327.60 every four weeks.

If you already receive Carer's Allowance, there's no need to apply—your award will transition automatically to Carer Support Payment. You'll be informed of this change.

How to Apply

Apply online, by phone, or request a paper form. Support for completing the application is available through client advisers across Scotland's local authorities.
