Follow the Cyber Savvy Checklist
As criminals increasingly exploit Artificial Intelligence to create more sophisticated scams, check you are taking the right steps to stay safe online.
The theme surrounding GetSafeOnline Week (7-11 October) this year is Artificial Intelligence (AI). This advanced technology is used in many areas of our everyday lives, helping us to plan, create and access information.
Unfortunately, AI is also being exploited by criminals who use it to develop sophisticated scams that look so convincing they can catch out almost anyone.
Check out GetSafeOnline's webpage about 'Understanding AI' and test yourself with the 'Spot the AI' tool to see if you can spot the difference between authentic and AI-generated content.
Cyber Savvy Checklist
To help protect the council network and keep yourself safe online, follow the Cyber Savvy Checklist:
- Complete your mandatory cyber security training each year on iLearn.
- Check every email and instant message carefully before you open any links or attachments.
- Create strong, unique passwords for all systems using three random words e.g. Pilot-Rope-Badge1!
- Use RenSafeOnline's nine easy-to-use free tools for help with things like verifying a website and checking your passwords are secure.
- Regularly visit the RenSafeOnline website for advice and up-to-date guidance.
- Remember A, B and C so you know what to do if you make a mistake when working with email:
- A - Abandonwhat you are doing and don't email anyone
- B - Be calm and gather information about the suspicious message
- C - Call the ICT Service Desk on 0141 487 0000 immediately!
