Talking about menopause and getting support at work
Find helpful guidance and resources this Menopause Awareness Month
We're proud of the progress we've made since we introduced our Supporting Menopause at Work policy back in 2022. We now offer a range of flexible supports for colleagues including up to five days paid menopause leave, a menopause health needs assessment tool and a raft of resources and training to help raise awareness of the impact of menopause symptoms.
Nurturing a positive, friendly and inclusive working environment where colleagues feel confident to talk openly about menopause has been key, and it's vital we keep this conversation going.
Menopause RenTalks Session - Tuesday 22 October 2024
Ruth Devlin, from Let's Talk Menopause, returns on Tuesday 22 October to host an info-packed RenTalk session on why lifestyle choices play such an important role when coping with menopausal symptoms, alongside other healthcare matters and complementary therapies. She will also introduce Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as a tried and tested technique to help manage some of the psychological symptoms of menopause.
This is an online session on Microsoft Teams, from 11am to 12.30pm, so look out for your invitation arriving in your inbox soon. If you don't have a council email address, please contact internal.communications@renfrewshire.gov.uk to be added to the invite list.
World Menopause Awareness Month - HRT
The theme for this year's World Menopause Awareness Month is Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)—a common treatment to help people experiencing menopause symptoms. It's important to remember there is no single correct way to manage the many and varied symptoms of menopause. Some may choose to take HRT, others may not be able to, or feel it's not the right approach for them.
We always recommend discussing your options with a healthcare practitioner. Recognising your symptoms and keeping a log of these can be very helpful. To help you find further information and support, we have added some additional resources to our supporting colleagues with menopause webpages (Renfrewshire Council website). These include:
- Videos explaining what HRT is, the different types of HRT and how to prepare to speak to your healthcare practitioner about your needs,
- Menopause Matters podcasts hosted by Ruth Devlin and Dr Heather Currie
- A menopause symptoms diary template to record and track your symptoms
Please share your feedback
Whether you are experiencing menopause yourself, or you are supporting someone who is, we hope you will find the information and resources helpful. Please share any feedback you have about our support for menopause by completing this short survey (Microsoft Forms) by Friday 15 November 2024.
