New operating system and password guidance

Read the latest updates from ICT on rolling out Windows 11 and using strong passwords.

Windows 11 to be installed on Council computers

ICT are rolling out the new software on compatible devices from Monday 3 February. Anyone collecting a new laptop or PC from this date will receive their device with the new software pre-installed.

The necessary upgrade ensures we will continue to receive the latest software and security updates. Other benefits include a modernised look and feel, better performance and improved security features.

What you need to do

Look out for a pop-up on your screen. As with all system updates, you will be asked to restart your device. When you sign back in to the network, Windows 11 will be installed.

What will change

The most noticeable change will be the relocation of the Windows Start button, which will be positioned near the bottom-centre of the screen.

Tips and guidance
Our colleagues in People and OD have developed interactive guidance for Windows 11 on iLearn to help you identify and use the new features. This will take you around 10-15 minutes to complete.

Go to the Windows 11 module on iLearn.

Are your passwords strong and secure?

Using strong passwords is essential to keep personal and sensitive information secure and to protect the council network.

Colleagues are encouraged to:

If you need support with your password or network access at any time, please log a call on our ICT Self Service portal.
