Renfrewshire Council

Renfrewshire praised in national education inspection

Our education services were recognised three times for good practice in the inspection of all Scottish councils.

A woman with a blonde bob haircut wearing a dark suit leans back on a banister as she smiles to the camera His Majesty's Inspectors of Education recently published their inspection into 'local authority approaches to improving education across the country'.

Renfrewshire was picked out as case study example of good practice three times—no other Scottish council was mentioned more often than we were.

The three projects in question which were picked out by inspectors are:

—Our parent ambassador group for children with additional support needs. This group meets four times a year to give feedback on relevant policy and practice.

—Our data strategy—each school has access to their own data dashboard, to help them plan learning and teaching, and the development of their own staff.

—Professional learning—inspectors praised the work being done across our schools to 'train the trainer', by passing on good practice, and helping teachers develop their skills.

Janie O'Neill, our Director of Children's Services, is delighted with the results and she's keen to recognise the efforts of everyone involved across the organisation.

She said: "We are delighted Renfrewshire features so strongly in this inspection of education services across Scotland.

"The praise from inspectors reflects well on what Renfrewshire schools offer our pupils—but also reflect very well on us as place to work.

"One of our council values is all about learning, so it's pleasing to see the inspection recognised the work being undertaken by the central team, supported by our schools, to 'grow our own' and develop our staff.

"We also value collaboration - which inspectors attested to by using that very word to describe how our education teams pass on good practice, both within local school clusters and across subject networks.

"It's very positive feedback and this national recognition is down to the efforts of many people. It highlights the quality and standards delivered by our central education team, teachers and support staff.

"I would like to thank all those colleagues for their continued commitment and acknowledge the hard work of everyone involved. I am very proud of them all."
