We offer excellent allowances and support.

Fostering Allowances
As a foster carer you will receive an allowance which covers the day-day expenses of caring for a child or young person.

Weekly fostering allowance

 Age Weekly allowance
 0 - 4 years olds £168.31 per week
 5 - 15 year olds £195.81 per week
 16 - 17 year olds £268.41 per week


This allowance covers:

  • general maintenance including food, accommodation and related costs
  • provision and replacement of clothing
  • pocket money
  • attendance at clubs, school and leisure activities
  • furniture and bedding
  • access to computer

Weekly fostering fee
We also offer a fostering fee to all foster carers in recognition of the service provided. The weekly fee is £296.56 per child.

Support
We have a dedicated  team of professionals to offer support to our foster carers.

You will have the opportunity to network with other carers and join a foster care support group. You will also receive an exclusive membership of the Fostering Network with its comprehensive training and development programme.


Fostering is considered a profession

With the experience gained, generous income, training, and the opportunity to advance your social care qualifications, fostering is becoming recognised as a formal profession.


Renfrewshire's Fostering Team have years of experience behind them

The Fostering Team is mac de up of skilled social workers who have years of experience working with children and foster carers. They offer excellent guidance and support in any situation.


We are a small and friendly local authority

We stay in regular contact with our foster carers and make regular visits to make sure everything is going well.

As a foster carer for Renfrewshire Council, you will:

  • have your own Supervising Social Worker who will help guide you throughout your career as a social worker
  • receive training every year
  • advance your skills through our Therapeutic Care Programme
  • be invited to monthly support groups
  • have a private membership of the Fostering Network, and
  • be invited to bring your own children along to our seasonal day trip with the 'We Care Too' Group.
