A helping hand unlocks new homes

Allana's compassion had a lasting impact on a local property owner and the community.

A woman stand smiling to camera In a recent show of commitment to our values, More Homes officer Allana McLuskey, was recognised for her helpful approach and commitment to finding the right solutions and maximising the availability of homes for residents in Renfrewshire. Allana received a heartfelt thank-you email from a grateful property owner who described the profound impact Allana had in helping her navigate the sale of her uninhabitable home—a process that restored hope and peace of mind.

The email described how Allana's kindness and empathy made the owner feel understood and hopeful in the face of an overwhelming situation. Suffering from anxiety and depression, the owner had abandoned her home due to its poor condition and struggled with knowing where to begin or whom to turn to for help. Allana's persistence and support were described as "a godsend," in helping her see a path forward:

"If Allana hadn't persisted with trying to contact me, I'd still be in such a bad place. I know this is part of her job, but her kindness and manner aren't. My whole world feels so much better and brighter. I credit this to Allana and her help."

Allana first connected with the owner after learning from concerned neighbours that her uninhabited property had become a source of community stress and potential health issues. Despite initial difficulties in reaching the owner, Allana's patience, empathy and persistence paid off.

She liaised with colleagues in Environmental Health and recommended our property matchmaker scheme, which proved successful in securing a buyer for the owner's property.

Allana added: "The support we provided wasn't simply a practical solution, she had lived in a constant state of anxiety and fear, and this marked a turning point for her peace of mind."

Allana's line manager, Jennifer Murdoch, praised her approach:

"I'd like to thank Allana for her passion, commitment, and enthusiasm. Her helpful manner and positive approach to finding suitable solutions for customers are just some of the great qualities she brings to our team, and for this, we want to say, thank you."
