Educational Psychology Service
The aims of Renfrewshire Educational Psychology Service are:
- To apply psychology and to work collaboratively with others in an educational context in order to support the learning and emotional wellbeing of children and young people, in particular those who have additional support needs.
- To support the implementation of the "Getting it Right for Every Child" (GIRFEC) agenda within Renfrewshire.
Educational Psychologists (EPs) use their knowledge of psychology, child development, education and learning to help children and young people make the most of their lives, particularly in educational settings.
An EP views children and young people's development and learning in the context of their environment, especially their educational environment. This approach emphasises educational needs rather than diagnostic labels and seeks to take an evidence-based approach to practice.
EPs seek to maintain and develop a quality educational psychology service which:
- fulfils statutory obligations
- reflects Renfrewshire Council's policies and priorities
- promotes consultation with stakeholders
- is delivered in a fair and consistent manner
- promotes social inclusion
- operates in the best interests of all children"
The Educational Psychology Service produces various guides which outline the work of the service. These can be viewed in the Related Documents section.
