Summer childcare hubs closing - a letter to parents and carers from Steven Quinn, 21 July 2020

The following was sent by Steven Quinn, Director of Children's Services, to parents and carers whose child attends a summer childcare hub on Tuesday 21 July 2020, updating them on when the childcare hubs will close ahead of a full return to school and nursery on 12 August.

Dear Parent/Carer,

We know the pandemic has been an incredibly challenging time for you as key workers and we hope that you have found our childcare hubs supportive during the last few months.

As you will be aware, we are planning for a full return for all children and young people to our schools and council-run nurseries from Wednesday 12 August, however this is dependent on a final government announcement which is currently scheduled for the Thursday 30 July.

To prepare for our schools and early learning and childcare centres to reopen to all staff on Monday 10 August and children and pupils from Wednesday 12 August, there will be a full cleaning schedule put in place for all buildings.

To help us do that, we need to close all childcare hubs on Thursday 6 August. This, therefore, will be the last day we can provide critical childcare for key workers.

We wanted to let you know as early as we can so you can find alternative childcare for the days before your children return to their nursery or school classes the following week. Following updated national guidance, this can now include more options for childminding and private nurseries.

Staff at our childcare hubs have enjoyed providing critical childcare since lockdown began and we very much hope your children have enjoyed attending them too.

We look forward to welcoming your children and young people back into nursery or school when the new term begins.

If you need to talk to us about anything related to childcare or your child going to nursery or school, email to get in touch with us.

Yours sincerely
