Latest update on return to school and nursery: a message from Steven Quinn 16 July 2020

The following is a message to parents and carers from Steven Quinn, Director of Children's Services. It is dated 16 July 2020 and provides an update on the latest information on Scottish Government's plans to reopen schools and nurseries.

Dear Parent/Carer,

Today, the Deputy First Minister gave an update on plans for nurseries and schools reopening following publication of scientific advice.

Further guidance is being developed to support our nurseries and schools to reopen safely in line with this advice and this is expected to be issued at the end of July.

We very much welcome the scientific advice published today and look forward to further guidance being published to support and inform our plans for children and young people returning to nursery and school.

We continue to work on the basis of a full-time return for children to come back into our nurseries, primaries and secondary schools from Wednesday 12 August. We are working closely with our school and early years teams, unions and Scottish Government and continue to follow national guidance to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our children and young people, our staff and the wider school community.

We already have robust contingency plans in place, and we can put these in place should they be required.

We expect a decision on the plan for our schools and council-run nurseries to reopen from Scottish Government around the end of July.

We know that as parents and carers you will have a lot of questions and we want to keep you informed. As soon as we have definite arrangements from Scottish Government, we will let you know as quickly as we can.

Guidance will also be coming out on childcare and this will inform us how we can support our partners to provide out of school care. When we know more, we will let you know as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued patience and support. To keep up to date, follow us on Facebook @renfrewshirecouncil, on Twitter@RenCouncil, sign up to our Schools and Nurseries digital newsletter, or visit our schools and nurseries page on the Coronavirus section of our website.

Yours sincerely
