Top pipers heading to Paisley

It's one of the biggest dates in the global piping calendar and I can't wait to see thousands of the world's top pipers and drummers arrive once again in Paisley for the 2019 British Pipe Band Championships.

This year we'll welcome over 120 bands to the town from across the UK and Ireland, and with plenty of activities on offer it promises to be a great day out for all the family.

The event is free to attend and there will be free shuttle buses running to St James Playing Fields all day from Paisley Gilmour Street Station, West College Scotland and Swift Parking on Greenhill Road.

Last year I was honoured to take on the role of event Chieftain and it was a great day out. I especially loved watching the local bands compete and I can't wait to see how Johnstone, Kilbarchan and the Renfrewshire Schools Pipe Bands get on this year. I'm delighted that our Renfrewshire Makar, Brian Whittingham, will be event Chieftain for 2019.

This is the fourth year that Paisley has hosted the championships and it really is one of the highlights of our event calendar.

You'll be sorry to miss it so come on down to St James Playing Fields on Saturday 18 May and enjoy some top-class piping. I'd love to see you there.
