Christmas 2018

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

The festive period is finally here and I'm looking back on my first full year as Provost of Renfrewshire.

2018 has been a very exciting year for the young people in our community, as they united to celebrate Event Scotland's Year of Young People, and I was honoured to attend so many events co-created by our local young people and celebrating their success.

My role as Veteran's Champion was very much at the forefront of my mind as we remembered our veteran community and marked 100 years since Armistice Day. We also celebrated 100 years of the RAF and I was delighted to have two Air Cadets join me on Armed Forces Day to raise the Armed Forces Flag.

This year I have embraced my charity fundraising, raising awareness of MND Scotland far and wide across Renfrewshire. MND Scotland is a charity very close to my heart after losing my mum to the illness in 2011.

Alongside my working challenges at City Gate Construction and Scotrail, I also travelled around Renfrewshire by train for MND Awareness Day and accompanied a bus load of eager daredevils to Killiecrankie for my Highland Fling Swing Challenge - a 40-metre-high swing over the River Garry!

Next year I'm looking forward to raising money for a local cause and will be fundraising for St Vincent's Hospice.

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year when it comes.
