Halloween launch 2018

Five spectacular things to see at Paisley Halloween Festival

There will be pyrotechnics, parades and aerial performances galore as Paisley gets set to host its biggest Halloween Spooktacular yet.

The town's annual Halloween Festival returns on Saturday 27 October with the ever-popular, free family event regularly attracting tens of thousands of people to Paisley town centre for the spectacle.

This year's festival is supported by the Year of Young People event funding - managed by EventScotland, part of VisitScotland's Events Directorate - and will be one of the major events as part of the year.

Performances at the festival will be shaped by young people - including a new finale production starring a 50-strong cast who will take to the skies for a breath-taking aerial show.

There will be so many spectacular things to enjoy during the frightfest - but here's five highlights you definitely won't want to miss:

The famous Paisley Halloween Festival Parade

More than 500 young people will parade through the streets of Paisley town centre on the Saturday in uniquely designed costumes and new large-scale parade artworks created by Renfrewshire's young people. The parade will also see top-class performances by Spark! LED drummers, Beltane Fire Society and Mr Wilson's Second Liners, co-ordinated by parade specialists Bridgeman Arts.

The Flying Witches performance

This spectacular aerial show will take place after the parade and sees a cast of young people working with Scotland's leading aerial dance company All or Nothing. Inspired by the town's 17th-century witchcraft trials - the last mass hanging for witchcraft in Western Europe - the performance will take place from 40 ft in the air next to Paisley Abbey and Town Hall.

Pyrotechnics galore!

Once you've followed the parade and have been left astounded by the Flying Witches show, make sure you head to the Fire Stage to see the stunning pyrotechnic performance. Led by award-winning specialists 21cc, the pyro show will close Paisley's Halloween Festival with a bang!

Halloween launch 2018 3 Entertainment around the town

Don't miss the Halloween-themed children's entertainment in Paisley Abbey and Town Hall, including face painting, glitter tattoos, soft play, arts and crafts, kids disco, pumpkin carving, craft workshops and balloon modelling. There will also be big screens around the town centre, an outdoor funfair and a cinema screening horror films - for the older ages.

Halloween Ball

Grab your best costume (and your dancing shoes) and head to the Halloween Ball and Halloween Prom Night in Paisley Town Hall on the Friday evening - ahead of all the Saturday fun. The Ball will also see a number of live performances, music and more spooky goings-on. Please note that this event will be ticketed with more information to follow.

The Year of Young People 2018 is a Scottish Government initiative consisting of a year-long programme of events and activities aimed at inspiring all ages of young people by celebrating their achievements, valuing their contributions to communities, and creating new opportunities for them to shine on a local and global stage.
