The Rotary Club of Furth visit

A visit from our Twin

I was honoured last week to host a lunch for members of the Rotary Club of Fürth, our twin town in Germany who were visiting Paisley to celebrate their 10th anniversary of being linked with the Rotary Club of Paisley.

Although the two Rotary Clubs have been linked for ten years, Paisley has been twinned with Fürth since 1969 and I am proud that we have such a strong and special relationship with the town.

I was delighted to show our German guests the incredible Paisley Abbey before taking them to the Sma' Shot Cottages for an exclusive tour.

The volunteers at Sma' Shot Cottages went out of their way to entertain our guests and they all had a fantastic time learning about Paisley's weaving past - and of course having their picture taken with one of the lions from the Pride of Paisley art trail!

The group also had the opportunity to visit Paisley: The Secret Collection and see some of the amazing artefacts that Paisley Museum have in storage.

The link between the two Rotary Clubs is a great example of the friendship and understanding of different cultures that town twinning was intended to create.

As part of their visit, the Rotary Club of Paisley also treated their guests to a ceilidh and I hope they all had an incredible time learning our traditional Scottish dancing.

Over the years we have had many exchanges with our friends from Fürth, from civic visits to school visits, and visits organised by independent organisations like the Rotary Club.

Celebrating our strong international links is very important and I'm glad we are continuing to strengthen these friendships further.
