Christmas Lights 2016

A tough choice to find the Provost's little helpers

I set out to find three little helpers to help switch on the Christmas Lights in Paisley, Renfrew and Johnstone, and I can't tell you how difficult it was to pick the winners.

The standard of entries was fantastic and I can certainly see there are a number of budding artists in our schools.

There were traditional cards depicting the birth of the baby Jesus, fun illustrations of Santa being stuck down the chimney, animals from all over the North Pole, and even some abstract cards Jackson Pollock would be proud of, so there really was a range to choose from.

Finally though, we did manage to pick three winners and I'm delighted they will have the exciting opportunity to be a VIP guest and push the button to officially kick off Christmas in their town.

Helping me to illuminate Paisley tonight is 10 year old Aleena Albin from St Peter's Primary School and I can't wait to meet her tonight and share the experience with her.

She'll get the chance to meet our special guests Ash and I'm sure there will be many adults in the audience excited at the prospect of reliving the 90's!

But there's loads of family activities taking place all afternoon today so come along and join in the fun.

Over the next two Saturday's, there will be two more lucky winners taking to the stage to hit the button and brighten up Renfrew and Johnstone for the festive period.

Erin Murray from Arkleston Primary will be the star of the show in Renfrew on 25 November and Tilly Shearon from St Anthony's Primary will take centre stage in Johnstone on the 2nd of December.

It's important that the kids get the opportunity to do this as it will make a memory of a lifetime and it'll make me less nervous having someone to help me on stage!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to take part, you certainly brightened up my day and put me into the Christmas spirit with your wonderful designs.
