Roll of Honour

The Council has established a Roll of Honour to recognise the passing of individuals who have made a contribution to Renfrewshire.

Council 22 June 2016 - Councillor Eddie Grady, Monsignor Canon William Diamond and Gary Kelly. Provost Hall referred, with sadness, to the recent deaths of Councillor Grady, Monsignor Canon William Diamond (a former member of the Education Policy Board) and Mr Gary Kelly (Commissionnaire, Renfrewshire House). She paid tribute to each person highlighting the special contributions each had made in service to their communities and to Renfrewshire Council. Provost Hall extended deepest sympathy and condolences to families and friends.

Education & Children Policy Board - 21 January 2016 - Donna Stevenson. The Convener referred with sadness to the recent death of Donna Stevenson, Acting Head Teacher of Paisley Grammar School. The Convener paid tribute to Donna and on behalf of the Council, the Convener extended condolences to Donna's family and friends.

Paisley North Local Area Committee 12 February 2015 - Gerry Graham. The Convener referred with sadness to the recent death of Gerry Graham who had represented Renfrewshire Visually Impaired Forum on this the local area committee since May 2009.

Council meeting 26 June 2014 - Derek Parker. Provost Hall referred with sadness to the recent death of Derek Parker, former reporter at the Paisley Daily Express and latterly, ranger with Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park. The Provost paid tribute to Derek who had contributed greatly to the knowledge and understanding of local history, culture and sporting activity in Renfrewshire. On behalf of the Council, the Provost extended condolences to Mr Parker's family and friends.

Council meeting 1 April 2014 - John Kenny. Provost Hall referred with sadness to the recent death of former councillor John Kenny. She referred to Councillor Kenny's service to Renfrewshire Council, where he had held a number of senior positions. Reference was also made to his interest in the Johnstone Festival and Rotary Club, and the Johnstone Historical Society. The Provost highlighted his personal qualities, in particular his devotion to his family and friends, and indicated that he would be missed by all those who knew him. Provost Hall offered her condolences on behalf of the Council to his family.

Renfrew & Gallowhill Local Area Committee - Jean McQuarrie. The Convener referred with sadness to the recent death of Jean McQuarrie who had represented Kirklandneuk Community Centre since the first full meeting of the local area committee in May 2008.

Council meeting 1 April 2014 - Georgina Notman. Provost Hall referred with sadness to the recent death of former Councillor Gina Notman, who was also the mother of current Councillor B Brown, and referred to her service to Renfrew District Council where she had held a number of positions. Reference was made to her strong commitment to the local community. The Provost highlighted her personal qualities and indicated that she would be missed by all those who knew her and offered her condolences on behalf of the Council to her family.

Johnstone & the Villages Local Area Committee 20 February 2014 - Jane Walker. The Convener paid tribute to Jane Walker who had worked tirelessly to establish Johnstone Castle Learning Centre and who had displayed community spirit in abundance.

Paisley South Local Area Committee 25 May 2013 - Sheila McLennan. The Convener referred with sadness to the recent death of Sheila MacLellan, the Glenburn Seniors Forum representative on Paisley South Local Area Committee. The Convener referred to Sheila's strong commitment to Paisley and, in particular, the local Glenburn community,to her personal qualities and indicated that she would be missed by all those who knew her.

Council meeting 25 April 2013 - Ellen Farmer. The Council noted with sadness the passing of Ellen Farmer who, for many years, was recognised as one of the most knowledgeable people on the history of Paisley, particularly in relation to the weaving and thread-making industries.
