Council Leader speaking at Paisley 2021 launch

Renfrewshire Council Leader named Herald Scottish Local Politician of the Year

Renfrewshire Council Leader Mark Macmillan received the award for Scottish Local Politician of the Year last night at the Herald's annual Politician of the Year awards in Edinburgh.

The award was in recognition for his efforts to secure a rail link to Glasgow airport and for promoting Paisley's bid for UK City of Culture 2021.

Councillor Macmillan said: "I am delighted to receive this award. Having been born and raised in Paisley, I take great pride in being able to represent the interests of communities not only in the town but across the whole of  Renfrewshire.

"I am proud to lead a Council that is committed to tackling poverty, raising attainment, creating jobs and being ambitious for every person in the area. Our Paisley bid for UK City of Culture 2021 will help us achieve those goals and I will continue to work with communities and our partners to achieve them."
