Paisley all set for SAY Award

Later this month Paisley will be at the centre of Scotland's musical universe when the town hall hosts the Scottish Album of the Year Award 2016 ceremony and I'm looking forward to it.

It's the most prestigious date in the Scottish music calendar and for the first time the awards will leave Glasgow - on Wednesday 29 June - for the first of a two-year stay in Paisley.

With big names such as Franz Ferdinand, CHVRCHES and Young Fathers on the 10-album shortlist it could be a star-studded evening.

We are hosting it as part of the push towards Paisley's bid for UK City of Culture 2021, and the event is a perfect fit for Paisley's tremendous musical heritage, which includes such names as Gerry Rafferty and Paolo Nutini, as well as a thriving live music scene.

Paisley already has strong links to the SAY Award through our annual Spree festival - the bill for the 2016 version of which is coming out soon. - in that all four prevous SAY Award winners have played the Spree in recent years.

A key part of the UK City of Culture 2021 bid is in showing we have the capacity to stage these big events - and hopefully there will be many more to come in future.
