Support for homeless people

If you are currently experiencing an emergency homeless situation and it is during our office hours, please contact Housing Advice and Homeless Services using the contact details at the bottom of this page.

 

Outwith office hours, please contact our emergency service on telephone number: 0800 121 4466. This is a freephone number from BT landlines although other phone providers may charge for these calls.

 

There are a number of specialist agencies who may be able to help you if you are homeless.

 

The George Street Service

The team offer a customer-focused multi-agency approach to help and support anyone in Renfrewshire who is dealing with a housing and/or health-related problem, needs help to avoid becoming homeless, or is looking for advice and practical assistance to set up a tenancy for the first time.

The friendly and experienced staff regularly help customers on a wide range of matters, such as:

  • advice on the housing options that may be available to you if you are looking for somewhere else to stay
  • providing support to help you move into your first tenancy and make sure you don't lose your home
  • providing a one-stop shop with specialist in-house expertise available on health, addiction liaison service, and other key support
  • help if you are experiencing problems such as domestic violence
  • housing benefit issues and money matters
  • looking for training and employment opportunities

There are also regular group sessions held at the service on a variety of tenancy sustainment issues such as:

  • A Home for Keeps (young persons/new tenants)
  • Women's Aid (domestic violence)
  • Fit for Life (health, well-being and fitness)
  • Steps for success (confidence building)
  • Network (volunteering, training, careers and employment)


The service is open Monday to Thursday 8.45am to 4.45pm and Friday 8.45 to 3.55pm, and anyone is free to drop in. No appointment is necessary, but we can agree an appointment time with you if you prefer.

If you are homeless your Housing Adviser located at Housing Advice and Homeless Services will assess your support needs and make any appropriate referrals to our housing support services.

Housing Advice and Homelessness Services also operates an emergency service for anyone who becomes homeless outwith office hours. The telephone number for the out of hours service is 0800 121 4466. This number is free to call from BT landlines, although other providers and mobile phone providers may charge extra.

Other specialist agencies

Renfrewshire Women's Aid offer accommodation to women and their children who are homeless because of domestic abuse. They also offer free confidential support and information for all women in any way worried about domestic abuse.

Renfrewshire Advice Works can provide advice and assistance to help you increase your income. 

Paisley Threads support for young people and parents up to the age of 21 who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. Visit the Barnardos website or email paisley.threads@barnardos.org.uk for further information.

RCA Trust provide support for people with an alcohol addiction. They provide an integrated range of services including information and advice, accommodation, counselling, group work and training. E-mail info@rcatrust.org.uk for more information.
