Private hire car driver licence

If you want to work as a private hire car driver in Renfrewshire, you must have a licence.

Application criteria

Applicants must:

  • be at least 21-years-old;
  • have held a current driving licence entitling you to drive in the UK for a continuous period of 12 months immediately prior to applying.

How do I apply for a licence?

The Council introduced a new system for receiving applications for grant and renewal of these licences on 30 June 2020. Applications are submitted electronically with supporting documents being uploaded and verified. Payment will also be made via the system. Once confirmed in order, licence holders will receive the form electronically to print, sign and return to the Council to allow the application to be accepted and processed.
