Transition support

 

Support for pupils starting P1 or S1 in August

We appreciate starting P1 or moving up to high school is a big moment for parents and pupils and we are doing all we can to help it go smoothly. Pupils starting P1 or S1 were able to visit their new schools during June to get to know their new school and teachers as well as meet new people and make new friends.

We wrote to all parents or carers who had submitted a placing request for the next school term by the deadline to let them know if their request can be accepted or not in May. If you applied after the deadline, we will have been touch at a later date.


Grants, money and support

 

Free school meals and clothing grants

Parents of children who qualify for a clothing grant or applied for a free school meal after clothing grants closed for the 2019/20 school year are receiving fortnightly payment direct to their bank account of £11.25 per child per week over the summer, in place of a free school meal.

These payments are continuing until schools reopen, however, the final payment will be issued to parents on Monday 27 July and will cover from 27 July to 11 August when schools reopen (two weeks and two days).

From Wednesday 12 August, children will start to return to school and receive free school meals as normal. Free school meals are being provided to all children currently attending our critical childcare hubs.

Applications for the school year 2020-21

If you were awarded a Clothing Grant and/or Free School Meals for your school aged children during session 2019/2020, you were in receipt of qualifying benefits, and there have been no changes to your circumstances, you should now complete our online form for the new school year.

You will be asked for your 12 digit reference number which is located at the top left-hand corner of the letter which you would have received from 2 July 2020.

If there have been any changes to your circumstances in the past year or you are applying for the first time, you will need to complete a new Clothing Grant and Free School Meals online form and attach the proof of benefits you currently receive.

All applications received before Friday 31 July will be paid before the start of the school term, any received after this date we will aim to process as quickly as possible.

Refunds for school trips and meals

We apologise to our parents and carers who had to wait for a refund for any day and residential school trips that were cancelled. It was a complex process and our staff had to liaise extensively with trip providers to source the refunds. All refunds should have been made by the middle of July. All refunds for school meals, whether paid into our ParentPay system or paid directly to the school, have now been refunded.
