Renfrewshire Council

Test and Protect in the workplace - Underwood Road, 11 September 2020

Letter sent to staff at Underwood Road, 11 September 2020

Dear Colleague,

I am writing to let you know that NHS Test and Protect are carrying out further COVID-19 contact tracing at Underwood Road, following a number of positive cases being identified.

We have established a list of close contacts and colleagues who have been advised to self-isolate. If you live in Renfrewshire, the rules on self-isolation have changed and if you are identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive, you - and all other members of your household - must self-isolate for 14 days. We want to minimise the impact of this on our workforce and their families.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde have carried out a careful risk assessment at Underwood Road, assisted by our colleagues and advise robust control measures are in place, however as a precaution, we have taken the decision to close the Upstairs office in Unit 1 Underwood Road for 14 days with immediate effect. This is because some of the positive cases are potentially linked to this location. The temporary closure will enable deep cleaning to take place.

As a further precaution, we are asking colleagues who have been based at this location to proactively self-isolate and work from home. This will ensure we take every step to reduce the risk of transmission at Underwood Road.

For Waste operatives you will still be able to use the down stairs section of Unit 1 to collect you're information, for Streetscene you can collect from Unit 3 and for Building Services you can collect from Unit 5.

If you have not been advised to proactively self-isolate or been contacted by Test and Protect, you can be reassured that you can continue to attend work as normal - unless you or anyone else in your household develop symptoms.

We are doing everything possible to ensure colleagues, workplaces and fleet are safe and I urge you to please continue to observe the workplace rules, particularly on social distancing, and other measures to prevent infection such as regular handwashing. It is vitally important that we do this to help prevent this virus from spreading.

If you develop symptoms of COVID19, please immediately self-isolate and book a test as soon as possible. You should also stay at home if someone you live with has symptoms. Please make sure you contact your manager as quickly as possible so that support and advice can be provided. The symptoms you should look out for include:

  • a high temperature or fever
  •  a new continuous cough
  • a loss of, or change in sense of smell or taste.

If you are contacted by Test and Protect, please make sure you immediately inform your manager, follow the advice and remember the council is here to support you.

Further information on COVID-19 including on what to do if you develop symptoms and how to access a test is available from NHS Inform.

Once again, my sincere thanks for your ongoing support.

Gordon McNeil
